North DakotaNorth Dakota is a midwestern state, and the most northerly of the Great Plains states. In the 19th century was considered part of the "Wild West", and together with South Dakota formed the Dakota Territory - named after the Native American tribe, the Dakotas. The capital of North Dakota is Bismarck, and the state's largest city is Fargo. Other towns and cities in North Dakota include Devils Lake, Dickinson, Grand Forks, Jamestown, Mandan, Minot, Valley City, Wahpeton, West Fargo and Williston. ![]() The state is not especially know as a vacation destination, but there are some places of interest and attractions in North Dakota. These include the Fargo Air Museum (in Fargo), the Roger Maris Museum (also in Fargo), the Dakota Dinosaur Museum (in Dickinson), and several zoos and wildlife attractions. Probably the best-known sports team in North Dakota is the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks (Northern League baseball) who are based in Fargo. Important education institutions in North Dakota include Dickinson State University (in Dickinson), Mayville State University (in Mayville), Minot State University (in Minot), Minot State University-Bottineau (in Bottineau), North Dakota State University (in Fargo), the University of North Dakota (in Grand Forks) and Valley City State University (in Valley City). Airports serving North Dakota include Bismarck Municipal Airport in Bismarck, Dickinson Theodore Roosevelt Regional Airport in Dickinson, Grand Forks International Airport in Grand Forks, Hector International Airport in Fargo, Minot International Airport in Minot, and Sloulin Field International Airport in Williston.
