MaineMaine is a state in New Engand in the Northeastern part of the contiguous United States. The state is famous for its French-influenced culture (Quebec is just across a river to the Northwest), as well as its seafood (particularly lobsters and clams).  The main airport in Maine is Bangor International Airport which is in Bangor. Important education institutions in Maine include the University of Maine (in Orono) and the University of Southern Maine (in Gorham). Professional sports teams in Maine include the Portland Pirates (ice hockey in the AHL), and the Portland Sea Dogs (Eastern League baseball), both of which are based in Portland.
