Arizona is a state in the southwestern United States. and was the last of the contiguous states admitted to the Union (1912). The state is perhaps best known for its desert landscapes (which include the Grand Canyon), but the northern parts of the state are pine-covered hills and mountains.

There are many cities in the state that are worth visiting. Phoenix, which is the largest city and state capital contains many attractions, and some of the other cities in the state include Glendale, Lake Havasu City, Scottsdale and Tucson.

Grand Canyon, Arizona Some of the leading attractions in Arizona include:
  1. FBR Open in Scottsdale: A nationally televised golf tournament that takes place at the Tournament Players Club at Scottsdale towards the end of January each year.

  2. Grand Canyon: One of the wonders of the natural world, the Grand Canyon is a spectacular deep natural gorge carved by the Colorado River.

  3. Hall of Flame in Phoenix: This is a museum dedicated to the history of firefighting containing exhibits from around the world.

  4. London Bridge in Lake Havasu City: London Bridge once carried traffic over the River Thames in London, England. After being purchased by Robert McCulloch, the bridge was transported to and reconstructed in Arizona.

  5. Mission San Xavier del Bac in Tucson: This is a historic Spanish mission that dates back to around 1700.

  6. Mystery Castle in South Mountain Park in Phoenix: Mystery Castle is an unusual and sprawling three-storey building. It was constructed from a wide range of materials including stone, adobe, rail tracks and even automobile parts.

  7. Old Tucson Studios in Tucson: Old Tucson Studio is a historic movie studio that today contains a theme part. The studio that was used in making many famous Western movies and TV shows (including Little House on the Praire). Theme park attractions include rides, tours, and entertainments such as staged gunfights.

  8. Pima Air & Space Museum in Tucson: This is the largest non-government funded aerospace museum in the world, and is home to over 250 aircraft including 75 which are on display. From the museum you can also take a bus tour to the nearby Aerospace Maintenance and Regeneration Center (AMARC) which is home to over 4,000 mothballed aircraft.

  9. Titan Missile Museum in Tucson: This is a Cold War era Titan missile facility that was active from 1963 to 1984, but is today a museum both about the facility itself and the Cold War more generally.

  10. Tucson Rodeo in Tucson: The Tucson Rodeo is an annual event held each February incorporating rodeo sports and a large rodeo parade.
Some of the leading educational institutions in Arizona include Arizona State University (in Temple) and the University of Phoenix (in Phoenix).

A leading company headquartered in Arizona is the Fender Musical Instruments Corporation which is in Scottsdale.

The principal airport serving Arizona is Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport which is in Phoenix.

Sports teams in Arizona include the Arizona Cardinals (American football in the NFL) in Glendale, the Arizona Diamondbacks (Major League Baseball) in Phoenix, the Phoenix Coyotes (ice hockey in the NHL) in Glendale, the Phoenix Suns (National Basketball Association) in Phoenix, and the Tucson Sidewinders (Pacific Coast League baseball) in Tucson.
