Minneapolis is a Midwestern state of the United States. The state is known for its extreme continental climate with very cold winters and mild to hot summers, as well as for its many lakes and waterways, the latter giving rise to its nickname, "The Land of 10,000 Lakes".

Probably the best known educational institution in Minnesota is the University of Minnesota Twin Cities which is in Minneapolis/St. Paul

Sports teams in Minnesota include Minnesota Thunder (USL-1 soccer) in St. Paul, the Minnesota Timberwolves (National Basketball Association) in Minneapolis, the Minnesota Twins (Major League Baseball) in Minneapolis, the Minnesota Vikings (American football in the NFL) in Minneapolis, and the Minnesota Wild (ice hockey in the NHL) in St. Paul.
