Product Description:

The first and oldest national park in the world can be enjoyed mile by mile with this complete travel guide. Along with fascinating facts and anecdotes, readers will learn of Yellowstone's geyser basins and the frequency of the geysers, out-of-the-way hikes, and flora and fauna. Easy-to-understand scientific explanations and diagrams complement an array of short walks, the right season for camping, and the park’s campgrounds and facilities. Updated road logs highlight more than 100 historical points of interest, including the often misidentified locale from which artist Thomas Moran painted his “Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone” masterpiece and where five stagecoach robberies occurred along the Grand Loop Road. New text examines areas that have changed in recent years, including the reconstructed Canyon-to-Dunraven Pass and the newly completed North Rim Drive at the Grand Canyon. Additionally, numerous new photographs feature historical and contemporary images.

Product Description:

Are you interested in Yellowstone or planning a trip to the park? If so, you’ll love Yellowstone National Park for Kids, Preteens, and Teenagers. Inside this detailed travel guide geared toward children, you’ll learn all you need to know about America’s first national park. For example, did you know that:

  • Yellowstone was discovered by John Colter in the early 1800s but for over fifty years, most Americans did not believe the reports of steaming hot springs and bubbling mudpots?

  • Yellowstone is one of the world’s biggest active volcanoes? The hot underground magma is what causes the geysers to erupt and when you visit Yellowstone you actually go inside the volcanic caldera.

  • Both black bears and grizzly bears can be found in Yellowstone and they are omnivorous which means they eat both plants and animals?

  • Old Faithful erupts about every ninety minutes to heights of over one hundred feet?

  • Early visitors to Yellowstone used to catch fish in Yellowstone Lake then dip them into Fishing Cone Geyser to cook them?
Yellowstone National Park for Kids, Preteens, and Teenagers includes easy-to-read descriptions, photographs, and diagrams of the park’s wildlife, history, and geology and it highlights some of the best hikes and attractions for children visiting Yellowstone. It also includes several Yellowstone themed word games and puzzles, an animal checklist, and a packing list geared toward children, preteens, and teenagers. Even parents and other adults will benefit from this entertaining and educational book.

Watch where you step! Sometimes the animals that live in Yellowstone National Park are hard to find--but you can always find their poop!

Come along with Michael, Emily, and their family as they learn about the animals in the park from their scats (poop) and tracks (footprints). This delightfully illustrated children's book follows Michael--who is afraid of bears--and his family as they encounter signs of bison, moose, elk, deer, rabbits, wolves, mountain lions, badgers, and more.

The book also includes a handy reference chart with silhouettes, tracks, scats, and comments for all of the animals.

Author Gary D. Robson and illustrator Elijah Brady Clark have also produced "Who Pooped in the Park?" editions for Glacier National Park and Grand Teton National Park, and more will be coming out in 2005.

Pick up your copy of this unique guide to scats and tracks for kids and find out "who pooped"!
