San AntonioSan Antonio is the 2nd most populous city in Texas, and 7th in the US over all. As of 2006, the city's population was estimated at 1,296,682, with an estimated 1,942,217 living in the San Antonio metropolitan area, which is the 30th largest metropolitan area in the country. The city of San Antonio gets its name from Portuguese Saint Anthony of Padua. Spanish explorers chose this name, because, when exploring the region in 1691, they stopped in this area on the feast of Saint Anthony of Padua (June 13th), San Antonio is visited by more than 20 million tourists each year, and is also a popular location for conventions. The San Antonio Convention Center alone hosts more than 300 events each year, which are visited by more than 750,000 convention delegates. Some of the attractions in the San Antonio area include:
