Woodland ParkWoodland Park is a 92-acre zoo in Seattle, Washington. The zoo houses over 1,000 animals representing approximately 300 species, and received over 1 million visitors during 2006. Woodland Park Zoo is especially noteable for having won more Best National Exhibit awards from the Assocation of Zoos & Aquariums, than any other zoo, save for the Bronx Zoo in New York City. One of the reasons for this success is that Woodland Park Zoo pioneered "immersion exhibits" (an exhibit which gives visitors the sense that they are in the animals' natural habitat), and created in the 1970s what is widely considered the first such immerson exhibit, a gorilla habitat.
