Elizabethtown

Elizabethtown (generally known to locals as "E-Town") is a borough in Lancaster County Pennsylvania, about 21 miles (34 kilometers) Southeast of Harrisburg. As of the 2000 census, its population was 11,887.

There are at least two different stories that explain the origin of the town's name. According to the official history, the town was named by Captain Barnabas Hughes, in honor of his wife, after he purchased a tavern in the area in 1750, and then laid out the town itself in 1753. The other main story is that the town is named for the wife of Michael Reeby, who sold the first building lots in the area in 1795.
