Oregon City

Oregon City is a city in Clackamas County, Oregon. As of the 2000 census, its population was 25,754.

The city was originally founded in 1829 by Dr. John McLoughlin who took advantage of a nearby waterfall, Willamette Falls, to runa a lumber mill. Oregon City was incorporated in 1844, making it the first city in the United States to be incorporated West of the Rockies. Because of its location at the end of the Oregon Trail, the city grew rapidly, and Oregon City was the capital of the Oregon Territory from 1848 to 1851.
