Cincinnati

Cincinnati is a city that lies on the Ohio River, in Hamilton County, Ohio. As of 2005, the city's population was estimated at 331,310.

The city is named after Lucius Quinctius Cincinnatus, a Roman general who saved his city, then retired from power to his farm. Many people considered George Washington as a latter-day Cincinnatus, and indeed Washington not only referred to Cincinnatus when he withdrew from politics, but also was the first President-General of the Society of the Cincinnati. The name Cincinnati for the city was chosen in 1790 by Arthur St. Clair, the governor of the Northwest Territory, who himself was also a member of the Society of the Cincinnati.
