Alamogordo is a city in Otero County, New Mexico. As of the 2000 census, its population was 35,582.

In 1982, the Space Shuttle mission STS-3 landed at White Sands Missile Range, just outside Alamogordo, in its only ever landing in a state other than California or Florida.
Ham, the first chimpanzee in space, was born at Alamogordo. After his death in 1983, Ham was buried in the lawn at the front of the New Mexico Museum of Space History.
The Trinity Site where the first atomic bomb was detonated on land belonging to the White Sands Missile Range. The site however lies over 100 miles (160 kilometers) from the city of Alamogordo.
