AugustaAugusta is a city in Eastern Georgia on the Savannah River, about 150 miles (240 kilometers) East of Atlanta. It is the second largest city in the state: As of the 2000 census, its population was 195,182. Augusta is the birthplace of the Southern Baptist denomination, and home to the oldest autonomous African-American Baptist church in the United States. Golf fans will also know that the city is home to the Augusta National Golf Club, where the first major golf tournament of each year (The Masters) is held.
