JacksonvilleJacksonville is a city in northeastern Florida. As of the 2000 census, its population was 782,623, the largest of any city in the state. Jacksonville was originally named Cowford, because it was founded at a point on St. John's River where cattle were driven across. The city was renamed in 1822 in honor of Andrew Jackson who was, at that time, the first military governor of the Florida Territory, and later became the 7th President of the United States.
