A venture on the water of a different nature can be had by taking the Staten Island Ferry. Battery Park City is a quiet residential neighborhood with a beautiful waterfront esplanade. Next door is Battery Park, location for the Castle Clinton National Monument. A precursor to Ellis Island, this is where you purchase tickets for the ferry to the Statue of Liberty.

Also in Battery Park is the Fritz Koenig sculpture The Sphere, which once stood on the plaza at the World Trade Center. Damaged, but not destroyed, it stands as a memorial to the events of September 11, 2001. The site of the World Trade Center is indicated on the map as well as the positions of two viewing areas.
